Temple College music professor Teri Johnson will present a voice recital on Saturday, Sept. 21, at 7:30 p.m. in the Jackson-Graeter Backstage Theatre. The event is free and open to the public.
The recital is titled “Bach to Divas” and will feature several selections often considered over-the-top challenges in the soprano repertoire such as Bach’s Cantata no. 51,“Una voce poco fa” from Rossini’s “The Barber of Seville,” “This Place is Mine” from Maury Yeston’s “Phantom,” as well as the comedic art songs “The Green Dog” and “La Diva L’Empire.”
The Bach cantata no. 51, “Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen,” is for soprano, trumpet and strings, and is considered a virtuosic piece for both voice and trumpet. The piece will feature Leonard Candelaria on trumpet, along with Dr. Leon Couch on harpsichord and a string quartet. On the other pieces, Johnson will be accompanied on the piano by Li Ping Wu.
The Backstage Theatre is located in the Mary Alice Marshall Performing Arts Center. For more information on this concert and upcoming events sponsored by the Temple College Fine Arts Division, call 254-298-8555 or visit www.templejc.edu.
